BitPay, the world’s largest provider of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency payment services, announced the launch of XRP payments and cross-border transfers with added support for XRP to the BitPay Wallet app.
BitPay merchants around the world can now accept XRP without any additional integrations required on their part, and according to BitPay CMO Bill Zielke, they already are. E-commerce site eGifter and international non-profit CARE, are among the first on board.
Xpring, Ripple’s investment initiative and developer platform also shared the news.
In October, Xpring announced a partnership with BitPay, to natively support XRP, which would enable thousands of businesses to accept XRP for payments through BitPay’s merchant processing platform.
According to Xpring:
“BitPay used libraries maintained by the Xpring team to integrate XRP into their platform, which in addition to its online merchant processing platform, also supports brick-and-mortar retail payments and global payments for billing. Each use case combines the speed, security and low cost of using XRP to settle payments. We look forward to supporting BitPay as a partner as they continue to grow with XRP.”
This is excellent news for the XRP ecosystem since it will make the digital asset available to thousands of merchants and customers. As Ethan Beard, SVP of Xpring, mentioned:
“We hope to build upon this progress, to make it easy for everyone to integrate money into their apps. We’re excited to further our partnership with BitPay and enable the use of XRP for everyday purchases, which benefits merchants and consumers alike.”
