The two online shops digitec.ch and galaxus.ch together form the Digitec Galaxus AG. The Swiss online market leader digitec is a specialist in IT, consumer electronics and telecommunications. Galaxus, the largest online department store in Switzerland, has a steadily growing range of products for almost every day and every day needs.
According to an announcement from the company:
“As one of the first online retailers in Switzerland, Digitec Galaxus now also accepts cryptocurrencies: customers of the two online shops digitec and Galaxus can now purchase all purchases starting from an order value of 200 francs with BTC, BCH, BSV, ETH, XRP, BNB, LTC, TRX, NEO or OMG.”
The new payment option was created as part of a pilot project together with the Swiss e-payment specialist Datatrans AG . The latter works together with the Danish crypto payment provider Coinify.
If customers of digitec and Galaxus choose the payment option “cryptocurrencies”, they will be redirected to a page of Coinify in the checkout. There you can select the desired means of payment from a list. After that you will receive a conversion rate valid for 15 minutes as well as the payment details as text and as QR code. Customers can then initiate the transaction with a so-called crypto-wallet .
Digitec Galaxus does not charge any fees for cryptocurrency payments. Coinify charges a conversion fee of 1.5% of the purchase amount. Other, but small, transaction fees will be charged depending on the currency, as well as how fast the transaction is to be confirmed. Normally, the payment confirmation by Coinify takes place within a few minutes.
Oliver Herren, CIO and co-founder of Digitec Galaxus stated that:
“Cryptocurrencies are fascinating and could become a relevant means of payment in e-commerce – we want to support this development. Of course I now count on all the Swiss crypto-millionaires to shop with us ;-)”
