Ripple launches PayID invoices and subscriptions demo page

by | Jun 25, 2020

A week after going live with PayID, Ripple has launched a web app called ChefXRP that demonstrates the power of using PayID in a subscription checkout flow on a test network.

On June 18, more than 40 leading technology, finance, and nonprofit companies joined forces to announce the launch of PayID, a universal payment ID to simplify the process of sending and receiving money globally – across any payment network and any currency.

Today, Warren Paul Anderson (Head of Developer Relations at Ripple), introduced ChefXRP, a web app demonstrating the use of PayID for subscriptions.

How does it work?

In order to use the app, developers will need to first download XUMM and configure the application to hit an address on the test net XRP ledger, found under Settings -> Advanced -> Node and selecting one of the nodes under the area labeled “test net”.

After this is configured, the ChefXRP website can be used to create subscriptions with payments being serviced by Xumm. To do this, users first sign in with their Pay ID on ChefXRP, and then click one of the Subscribe buttons. This will open a modal prompting the user to complete the purchase, which will take him/her to the Xumm website.

The Xumm website may show a QR code that users can scan with the Xumm app, or may provide a button to display a QR code if they’ve already sent a notification to the user’s device to approve the transaction.

Clicking accept will send the user back to the ChefXRP website with a success message and the ability to modify the subscription using the select box in the top right corner. Clicking on the subscription will provide a modal that allows the cancellation of the subscription.

After receiving the notification from the Xumm app, there is an option to accept the charge, however, there is also the option to decline via the close button in the top right corner.

Developers inspired by this demo, can sign up for the PayID Hackathon, where there will be over $25K in prizes awarded to the winners. It will be interesting to see what other applications will come up.
