In what appears to be a massive effort to promote a scam and steal large amounts of cryptocurrencies, various high-profile Twitter accounts have been hacked.
Twitter accounts of tech companies, crypto exchanges, and famous individuals have been compromised, promoting a free crypto giveaway scam. Some of the most notable accounts are:
Kim Kardashian West
Tweets sent by these accounts ask for Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies promising to “double all payments” sent to an address. This is of course a scam. Anyone who sends cryptocurrencies to those addresses DOES NOT receive anything back.
Up until today, these scams were pretty common in CT (Crypto Twitter) but the scammers were using fake profiles or impersonator accounts to fool users into sending them crypto. This is the first time major accounts have been hacked in order to promote this scam.
We will update this story as additional information comes up.
The scammers have received 12.86 BTC to their BTC address: bc1qxy2kgdygjrsqtzq2n0yrf2493p83kkfjhx0wlh, worth $118,000 at the time.
